There’s not enough time in the day to do all the things on my to-do list.
Technology has always been the biggest one. Building software has been my favorite creative outlet ever since I stumbled across QBasic on our family’s Commodore 64 when I was six. I remember hand-writing a program on a yellow legal pad for my mom for Valentine’s Day, using PEEKs and POKEs to draw a heart on the screen. It didn’t work, but she appreciated the effort.
Music has always been close behind. I play piano, mostly classical and musical theater, and at one point I came surprisingly close to taking a career path toward Broadway before swerving into tech and finance at the last minute. Years later I got to experience that world anyway when my daughter Riley performed in Waitress alongside Sara Bareilles. I pick up the guitar every now and then, too.
Writing is more of an on-again, off-again relationship. I’ve written children’s poetry, fiction, and nonfiction, and despite being an avid reader, I still occasionally convince myself that I could write the next great novel. I have ideas I genuinely like. I just haven’t yet developed the muscle to sit down and write 80,000 consecutive words. Maybe someday.
I also enjoy learning languages (not just the programming kind), A/B testing recipes (I’m currently tinkering with homemade ice cream), and finding progressively better ways to organize my life. Lately I’ve become obsessed with bouldering, where I’m working my way through V5s and V6s.
Professionally, I’ve spent my career building software and technology organizations. I started in financial services working on trading systems, spent time as CTO at Scouted, served as CIO at Acuren, and now lead digital, software, data, AI, and technology as Chief Digital Officer at Sperry Rail.
This blog is where those interests tend to collide. Sometimes I write about software, AI, or leadership. Other times it’s cooking, climbing, parenting, or whatever rabbit hole I’ve disappeared into that week.
I live in Connecticut with my wife Julia, the family, and our dog, Jones.
