I’m interested in a lot, and don’t have enough time for all of it.
I like technology, especially building software. Software development has been the ultimate of creative outlets for me since I came across Q-Basic on our family’s Commodore-64 when I was 6. I remember hand-writing a program on a yellow legal pad for my mom for Valentine’s Day, using peeks and pokes to draw a heart on the screen. It didn’t work, but she appreciated the effort.
I like playing the piano, and learning new music, especially classical and musicals. I almost took a very different career path leading towards Broadway, but swerved into tech and finance at the last moment. Eventually I did make it to the stage when my older daughter Riley got cast and performed in Waitress alongside Sara Bareilles! I pick up a guitar sometimes too.
I have an off-and-on relationship with writing (children’s poetry, fiction, and non-fiction). Though I’m a pretty avid reader, every now and then I think that I too could write the next great novel. I have what I think are some fun ideas, but don’t yet have the muscle for hunkering down and actually writing a whole thing out. Maybe some day!
I like learning new languages (not just the programming types), and A-B testing recipes (I’m working on my ice creams), and I’m a big fan of finding better and better ways of keeping myself organized. Lately, I love bouldering, and am working on my V5s and V6s.
Professionally, I spent a long while working as a technologist in financial services, with a specific focus on building and supporting trading systems. After a stint as CTO at Scouted (acquired), I moved on to Acuren, where as CIO I now oversee technology for the business.
I live with my two daughters Riley and Reese, and dog Jones.
